2024_東京短期進修Part1

過去兩週我在東京，向一位34年資歷的皮革職人-Yamashita Tsuyoshi老師學習製作皮件。

一人工作室，步入軌道後有時模式越來越固定。

創意與靈感漸漸枯竭，那種停滯不前，對我來說是種非常無力的感受。

於是去年底我主動聯繫老師，提出了短期進修的請求。

暫時放下手邊的工作，著手規劃這次的課程，享受單純當一個學生的幸福。

原本希望在每天的課程後，稍稍記錄學習過程。

沒料到這是個太天真的想法：

因為原本預計每天６小時的課程，其實從第一天開始就沒有準時下課過。由於資訊量過大，每天都有腦子被塞爆的消化不良感，然後晚上回飯店繼續完成回家作業，沒有一天有睡飽過。

身體相當疲倦，但這種精實的方式卻又讓我感到非常過癮…

雖然這樣講有點怪，以前就常被學生說：我是不是有點Ｍ。

8天的課程，前面兩天，老師都在指導我研磨日式裁皮刀的方法。

老實說，這是我覺得整個課程裡最艱難的部分，但也是收穫最多的地方之一。

接下來的幾天我能深切的感受到，一把鋒利的工具，在處理皮革各種樣態的作業上所帶來的便利。

直到第三天，我們才進入包包版型的製作。

For the past two weeks, I’ve been in Tokyo, learning leather crafting from a 34-year veteran leather artisan, Mr. Yamashita Tsuyoshi.

Working alone in my studio, I found myself falling into a routine, feeling creatively stagnant and helpless. So, towards the end of last year, I reached out to Mr. Yamashita to request a short-term apprenticeship. I temporarily set aside my current projects and began planning this course, reveling in the simple joy of being a student.

Initially, I had hoped to document my learning process after each day’s class. However, that turned out to be a naive idea because our scheduled six-hour classes never ended on time from day one. The overwhelming amount of information left me feeling mentally exhausted every day, and I found myself continuing my homework back at the hotel every night, never fully rested. Despite the physical fatigue, this intensive approach left me feeling incredibly fulfilled.

Though it may sound strange, I’ve often been told by students in the past that I might have a masochistic streak. (Well, say what you will, maybe there’s some truth to it…)

The course spanned eight days, with the first two days dedicated to learning the Japanese style of sharpening leather knives, which was honestly one of the most challenging but rewarding parts of the entire course. In the following days, I deeply experienced the convenience a sharp tool brings when working with various process of leather. It wasn’t until the third day that we delved into bag pattern making.
