Two years have flown by since my last visit, but the memories of that dreamy studio and my kind, patient mentor never faded. I’ve been longing to return and finally complete this project.

The past two years have been a period of profound growth and reflection for my own studio—a necessary time to recharge and reset. Bringing my long-held dream back to life, I headed to Tokyo this Lunar New Year. 🌸

The first day started perfectly, spotting adorable Japanese white-eyes in the cherry blossom trees outside the studio. It was the perfect start to an incredibly fulfilling session.

From choosing the ideal base materials and inner lining to prepping the frame, every detail mattered. Under my teacher’s guidance, I focused on skiving the leather to the perfect thickness before setting the metal frame for my doctor’s bag. After 2 years of practice, being more comfortable with the skiving knife made the process so smooth! Seeing the silhouette finally come together—oh my god, the excitement was unreal!

We ran into a “beautiful mistake” while attaching the straps: I’d miscalculated the length by 5mm two years ago! My teacher just smiled and said, “Let’s make a new one!” It turned out to be the perfect opportunity to level up—I crafted a more elegant, better-proportioned strap. I guess I really am a lucky person! (Haha) 🍀

Knowing how much I love birds, my teacher even gifted me this adorable duck-shaped condiment jar. It instantly reminds me of my little ones at home. Thank you, sensei, for everything! 🦆💛
